The traditions and customs in Kumaoni marriages are so delightful that they take the marriage experience to some other level. Kumaoni weddings are such a feast of social practices and marriage believes.
What makes Garhwali marriages so unique? Here are they:

Dressing
Pichora is a traditional women wear that is not only customary for a bride, but also for a married woman to wear it during social and religious occasions. During a wedding, the Pichora is gifted by the bride’s side, however, sometimes the groom’s side also presents the same. According to the customs, Pichora brings good luck to the bride.
‘Nath’ is also an essential ornament for the bride. It is a big nose ring that the bride carries. After the marriage, bride wears a Chareu just like a mangalsutra, which is considered as a holy ornament in Garhwali tradition.
For men, Dhoti-Kurta or Payjama-Kurta is considered as the traditional costume for the groom.

Traditions
Some traditions in an Uttarakhand Shadi are quite unique. During the engagement ceremony, the fathers of the couple exchange their rings and not the couple. As the groom is considered as Vishnu during the marriage, the bride’s father and the Pandit provide extraspecial treatment to the groom as soon as the baraat reaches the wedding destination.
Kanya-Daan is considered as the ultimate ‘daan’ according to Garhwali culture. After the kanyadan, the bride side wishes all the good luck to their girl and the girl finally becomes the part of the groom’s family.

With unlimited traditions, marriages in Uttarakhand bring divine blessings to the life of the newly wed couple.
